Today is #WorldDiabetesDay! Check out this article to learn more and support those who have diabetes.
Hello fellow health-conscious readers!
If you don't already know, November is National Diabetes Month, and Tuesday, November 14th is #WorldDiabetesDay. Therefore, I decided to post this week's health article a little early. What is World Diabetes Day? Today is specifically designated for diabetes awareness and support of those who suffer from diabetes. This year's theme is Women and Diabetes. The campaign will promote affordable access to all women with the disease. According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), There are currently over 199 million women living with diabetes and this total is projected to increase to 313 million by 2040 ... Diabetes is the ninth leading cause of death in women globally, causing 2.1 million deaths each year.
Plus, diabetes in women can cause traumatic effects. IDF states that,
Women with diabetes have more difficulty conceiving and may have poor pregnancy outcomes ... Approximately one in seven births is affected by gestational diabetes (GDM), a severe and neglected threat to maternal and child health.
If you are a woman with diabetes, or have family history of the disease, make sure to show your support by participating in local events for #WorldDiabetesDay. Tag family and friends, tweet, and post #WorldDiabetesDay to raise awareness. Widespread awareness matters and together we can help others receive the treatment they need.
